Free Work Hours Calculator

This free Work Hours Calculator helps you calculate your total hours worked for the week without using a spreadsheet or manually adding time cards. Enter when you started working, when you finished and the length of any unpaid break.

The calculator instantly shows your total time, decimal hours, regular hours and overtime hours. If you enter your hourly rate, it also provides an estimate of your regular pay, overtime pay and total gross earnings.

Quick answer: Enter your clock-in and clock-out times above, add your unpaid break and hourly rate, and your weekly hours and estimated pay will be calculated automatically.

How to Calculate Work Hours

To calculate hours worked, subtract your starting time from your ending time and then subtract any unpaid breaks.

Example:

Clock In: 8:00 AM
Clock Out: 5:00 PM
Unpaid Lunch: 30 minutes

9 hours − 30 minutes = 8 hours 30 minutes worked

Instead of performing this calculation separately for every day, the weekly calculator above automatically adds your daily totals and gives you the complete result.

Weekly Hours Calculator

A weekly hours calculator is useful when your work schedule changes from day to day. You can enter a different starting time, ending time and break for every day of the week.

Days you did not work can simply be left blank. Only completed shifts are included in your total.

Time Card Calculator With Lunch Breaks

Unpaid lunch and rest periods can make manual time-card calculations confusing. This time card calculator lets you enter the number of unpaid break minutes for each shift.

Those minutes are automatically deducted from the time between your clock-in and clock-out.

Decimal Hours Calculator

Work time is often expressed as decimal hours for payroll, invoicing and timesheets. Decimal time converts minutes into a fraction of an hour.

15 min 0.25 hours
30 min 0.50 hours
45 min 0.75 hours
60 min 1.00 hour

For example, 8 hours and 30 minutes equals 8.50 decimal hours. The calculator displays both formats automatically.

Hourly Pay Calculator

If you know your hourly wage, enter it in the Hourly Rate field. The calculator multiplies your eligible hours by your hourly rate and displays an estimated gross pay amount.

This can be useful for hourly employees, shift workers, freelancers and contractors who want a quick estimate of their earnings.

Overtime Calculator

You can customize both the weekly overtime threshold and overtime multiplier. The default fields are set to 40 hours and a 1.5 multiplier, but you can change them before calculating.

Important: Overtime rules vary by jurisdiction, occupation, employer and employment arrangement. This calculator only applies the values you enter. It is an estimate and is not payroll, tax or legal advice.

Night Shift Hours Calculator

The calculator can also handle shifts that continue past midnight. For example, if you clock in at 10:00 PM and clock out at 6:00 AM, the calculator recognizes the clock-out time as occurring on the following day.

This makes it useful for overnight workers and other schedules that cross midnight.
